Shiogama Shrine

Shiogama Shrine was venerated as a Michinoku country Ichinomiya Shrine, an important shinto shrine so as to appear in the record of the Imperial Court early in the Heian era. There is the red colored main shrine built by the Date Family in the Genroku era, Shiwahiko Shrine and the Shiogama Shrine Museum are also in the precinct. Around the beginning of May, Shiogama cherry trees of the natural treasure having 50 petals on one flower is in full bloom. There are two pathways to the shrine; one is a main path with the 202 steps of the stone stairway (steep slope), another is the east pathway (gentle slope).
