Matsuyama Castle

It is an uphill slope from Chojyaganaru flat to the mountain top. A stone pavement and a stone stairway. There are some gates and oars. The steep Ishigaki stone wall. It is worth seeing it. You can overlook Matsuyama city from the open space on the way to the top.
 Matsuyama-jo Castle is on the Katsuyama mountaintop. 132m above sea level. One of the Japan's three biggest coalition-type castles on a hill. It is a great castle with Himeji-jo Castle, Wakayama Castle. Approximately 400 years ago. Yoshiaki Kato started construction of this castle. He spent time of 25 years. It was completed in 1627 (Kanei 4). The current castle tower was rebuilt in 1854 (Ansei 1). It is a thing of the latter period most in the existing castle tower. Inuiyagura oar. Noharayagura oar. Sichikumon gate. Kakuremon gate. Ichinomon gate. They exist. It is appointed to the important cultural property of the country. The whole area from a main enclosure of the top including the moat of the foot of a mountain is Matsuyama-jo Castle. Horinouchi is maintained as a park now, in which there were Ninomaru, Sannomaru, samurai residences.

Iyotetsu streetcar. It is a 5-minute walk from Okaido stop. It is three minutes by Matsuyama-jo Castle ropeway from the platform. Or it is six minutes in a lift. A 15-minute walk from Chojyaganaru flat.
