Moto-Yakushi-ji Temple Site

The Emperor Tenmu prayed for the disease recovery of the empress (later, the Emperor Jitou) and erected it in the place of Ukyo of Fujiwara-kyo. It was a large temple along with Daikandai-ji Temple of Sakyo but it was removed and rebuilt entirely in the current place of Nishinokyo when the capital was transfered to Heijo-kyo. Only the cornerstone indicating the ruins of the hall is left now.
