Hetsumiya (Enoshima Shrine)

The head shrine of Enoshima Shrine. Sanetomo Minamotono founded it in 1206 (Kenei 1), and Tagitsuhime-no-mikoto was enshrined. The main shrine with the current Gongen-zukuri style was rebuilt in 1976 (Showa 51). There is Hoan-den that Myoon-Benzaiten (Hadaka Benzaiten) playing biwa on the left side and Happi-Benzaiten having bow and sword were worshiped. Myoon-Benzaiten is one of the Japanese three biggest Benzaiten with Miyajima (Hiroshima) and Chikubu-shima (Shiga). Summer festival is held every year on Sunday closer to July 14. After miniature shrine departing from Hetsuno-miya, parading with musical accompaniment to approach to shrine. And after that, entering sea at Bentembashi, and ablution is made, then headding to Koshigoe.
