Former Iwasaki Residence and Garden

A former house of the Iwasakis who is the founder of Mitsubishi. It was built as this residence of the Hisaya Iwasaki in 1896 (Meiji 29). A design of the Dr. Josiah Conder that the wooden European-style building of the U.K. renaissance type is known as an architect in Rokumei-kan period among existing European-style building, billiard room, Japanese halls. The hall is splendid made, too. The billiard room does the mountain hut-like appearance, and it is said that the Japanese hall of the Shoin-zukuri was used as residence space. The Japanese-Western style juxtaposition-type very large garden is beautiful. This former house is appointed to an important cultural property.
