In Shiga, the prefectural seat is Otsu-shi in the prefecture of the Kinki district. A mountain range and a mountainous district surround circumference, and there is Lake Biwako in the center. The area is 669 square kilometers, and the Lake Biwako accounts for a one-sixth of the area of the prefecture in the Japan's biggest lake. There are a Buddhist temple and Shinto shrine Buddhist temple possessing a national treasure and cityscape with the history, a health resort of the biwa lakefront.
